Carrie Kirkpatrick travels to Cadiz to discover the beginnings of Spiritualism in Spain. A difficult quest, as all records were destroyed by the Church in a campaign to eradicate what they saw as diabolic pratices. The Catholic Church even brought back the ‘Auto de fe’, public burnings, for the first time since the witch trials of the 16th century. Only this time they were intent on destroying all spiritualist literature instead of witches.

Carrie travels back in time to recount the story of Dr Torralva, Spain’s most renowned magician and physician, only to discover that he may well have also been Soain's first spiritualist medium.
